Do colored hair gels work on dark hair?

I have fairly dark brown hair and I want to be Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes for Halloween, but i need yellow hair. I was thinking that I might be able to use colored hair gel or colored powder in hair. I this is not possible is there any suggestions? Also I would like to keep it fairly temporary too.

'manic panic' works very well..i wouldnt suggest 'ice' for dark brown hair also the generic stuff they have at hot topic works well

coloured hair gels do work good on dark hair, I use it all the time. You could also use coloured hair spray. They both wash out really easily and dont change your natural hair colour.

Colored gel will probably be too sheer. Try a colored paste or glue. Those particular types are meant to be temporary and if your hair is already dark you won't have to worry about that too much.

it is really hard to get a temporary light color to put on dark hair... i know you dont want to hear this, but you would have to lighten your hair before you died it- that is to say if you dont just outright bleach it!... but someone else suggested a wig, you could do that if you dont want permanent... but remember, you can always redye your hair to match your natural color, after holloween.
