do you use the stiffest hair jell you can find? If you have thick hair you might have to add a touch of strong hold hair spray. I don't know where you live but we have a beauty supply store that anyone can buy from and they are great at helping find products that are right for you and the price is right too. Its called Sallys beauty supply and they also have a web sight.

blow dry your hair a little first, don't completely dry it though. then use only a small amount of gel, not a whole handful... about a nickel size in the palm of your hand should be perfect. spike it or do whatever and it should work great. you can blow dry it a little more afterwards and use a little hairspray to make sure you hair stays perfectly.
