Anyone know a better remedy than gel or hairspray for keeping my hair down?

i have wavy hair, and i keep it really short (so it looks strait). if my hair grows longer than 1 inch long then it starts to have a mind of its own.

every morning i wake up with a beckham like do (think messy mohawk). it'll stay this way until i take a shower when it goes back to normal... for a few hours at least. then i start to develop a very telling strip along my head. i've had to either use gels/hairsprays/oil to keep my hair down (and it doesn't always work) or i keep my hat on all the time until i can trim my hair again.

any thoughts on how to tame this head of hair?

btw, my hair ends up looking like the first pic on this page

you can dilute some Elmer's glue, very watered down, id say probably 1 part glue to 4 parts water, mix well, apply cautiously. it will hold your hair until you wash it out, and its completely water soluble, so it will come right out. i do not know the long term effects of glue as hair product, but i do know it works.

The longer the hair is, the heavier it is. Try growing it out a little bit longer and then when its wet use gel and a blowdryer to slick it. Or cut your hair pretty short, so you don't even need to gel it.

Or don't even tame your hair at all. Maybe you look good with a little wavy do.

Gel helps. There a lot of gels that you can purchase from drugstores, but make sure that they are alcohol free. Good luck-

Go to sleep with the thing in your head, and take it out in the morning....If your hair is really "hard to manage"..then just buy a relaxer!! A relaxer cream!! Instructions are really easy, and is not expensive!!

I have a brother that had the same problem. He used the gels, hairsprays, etc. I've tried a lot with him... Until i realized that After he got out of the shower, with his hair still wet, if he blow dried it, and styled it at the same time, it stayed... Also i found that putting a small amount of mouse in before blow drying helped as well..

Try Paul Mitchell Strong Daily Conditioner OR Super Strong Treatment OR Super strong Daily Shampoo. It works SO good with taming your hair, trust me. I used to have wild hair that wouldnt do ANYTHING I screamed at it to do after I got so frustrated. My hair stylist suggested I use Paul Mitchell products and omg it was a miracle, it tames your hair and it STAYS that way if you use it every other day. You can buy his products at pretty much ANY hair salon or hair place. If not here's a site you can order from:

http://paulmitchell.com/site/subpage.asp...

It even gives facts on what it does to your hair and how it helps. Enjoy!

P.S. You might have to go to salon locator to find a salon near you, I'm not sure if you can order directly from the site...
