No the Hair gel or hair spray won't mess up the dye. Just brush it out like the other answer said. And its better to do it dirty. lol... Dye your hair when its dirtier anyway. I mean don't go rub your hair in mud. But don't wash it 24 hours before you dye it.

hunni from my experience as long as u brush out the product and then dye it, should be fine, as long as your hair is not overly clean, i find the dye stays better

I wouldn't risk it, but I don't think it will hurt... I recommend using a shampoo that strips your hair first, that way the dye gets into the hair follicle.
